I'm looking at a '67 big block car. Seller says numbers matching. Everything matches trim tag, VIN authentic, engine block casting is correct and last part of VIN stamped on the pad matches the VIN tag. It's a 400HP manual trans which according to my info should be "JC" stamp on the pad, but the stamp reads "TO." Like I said, everything else checks out - this is the only anomaly. Any help here?
Well, right after I posted the above, I went back and looked at the picture of the pad. I read the stamping incorrectly - the two-letter code is the "suffix" not the "prefix" (duh-ohhh!) and it's "IL" (entire number TO504IL) which is correct for a 390HP engine. Looks like the restorer put on a tri-carb setup instead of the original 4-barrel.
Seems to me it wouldn't be a problem to swap out the carb systems. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
