Hello, I am trying to verify the model of a 1962 Corvette I am interested in purchasing. The owner (a friend of mine) believed it to be a 1962 fuel injected with the fuel injector removed (a very common thing in the day, I understand, because it was finicky).
A problem is that the VIN is a replacement (it is not even on the steering column, where I understand it should be). It does appear by the numbers to be an appropriate VIN. However, it is hard to identify what exactly the model is because it is a replacement. (BTW, I understand the concerns of a replacement VIN - I am attempting to have it traced).
I have had this car looked at by a Corvette specialist. He is certain it was not a fuel injected model because of what he says is a tell tale sign: There is a dimple in the fire wall on the upper right that is not drilled out - and he said it would be if it was a fuel injected.
In addition, he has been able to identify the motor as the right one for the 62-65, but he believes it is a replacement motor. Motor number is F0109HD. He reports the HD represents a 1965 power glide full size car.
My main question is what are some of the identifying features to look for if it is or was originally a fuel injected car? On the body, motor and frame? (not just numbers, but also features/identifiers that can be visual cues).
Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you in advance, Jonathan
