There are those who prefer to read novels and not short stories: the consideration that a short story is a story of little value, because it is too short compared to the novel, is wrong. Maybe it's more difficult to write a story, maybe it's even more difficult to read it. Reading short stories has many advantages in my opinion. Reading is faster because they are short stories. Reading is perhaps smoother: the stories in the anthology are constantly changing and this allows you to start something new after a short time. A story introduces us to a new writer: if we like it, we will be inclined to read his novels.
These, at least, are the analyzes that I am responsible for. What is the story Isn't it the oldest narrative that exists? Doesn't it allow the writer to experiment with different styles and techniques? To learn your skills, even, before trying your hand at a novel? I have read several anthologies of short stories so far, but they all fall into three typologies: stories on the same theme and Phone Number Data by the same author : perhaps the most classic collection, like the Sherlock Holmes stories. stories by various authors on the same theme : usually requested by curators/publishers, like the beautiful Terrore! complete collections of an author's stories : such as the stories of Asimov, of Lovecraft. A complete work of short stories.
They allowed me to get to know a writer in depth, such as the aforementioned Asimov and Lovecraft, but also Poe. They also allowed for more "relaxed" reading: when I didn't feel like embarking on another novel, I read stories to break up and relax. A story, for me at least, is not a demanding read.He made the decision almost instinctively, much to his surprise. The fear of him made him sweat, but the desire to know the truth about the rumors he had heard for years was stronger. Looking away from the house, he ducked, ducking through the gap. When he was on the other side, the shadow of a human figure appeared in front of him, blocking his path. *** The child is tied up. The ropes wrap around him and hold him tight to the chair. It has been cold in the room where he was taken and locked up for a few days. It is always dark, except when the man comes and turns on the light bulb hanging from the mold-covered ceiling. But light means pain.
