The 700R4 Transmission was used in the Chevrolet Corvette from 1982 thru 2005. Admittedly, the transmission was modified some throughout that time period, but the basic design remained the same.
In 1990, Chevrolet re-named the 700R4, using the designation "4L60" instead. Under the 4L60 designation, the "4" represents the number of forward gears, the "L" represents longitudinal applications (in other words, rear-wheel-drive), and the "60" represents the relative torque capacity.
